Has anyone else had problems with Depo, such as irregular or nonexistent periods?

That is quite a common with Depo Provera:

Depo-Provera can affect menstrual bleeding. After a year of use, 55% of women experience amenorrhoea; after 2 years, the rate rises to 68%. In the first months of use "irregular or unpredictable bleeding or spotting, or rarely, heavy or continuous bleeding" was reported.

The effects of depo-provera can be unpredictable. Some women find their periods stop all together while on it, others still have periods. Some get occasional 'spotting', others have heavier, irregular bleeding.
Most woman are happy to do without the bleeding but irregular bleeding can be a problem. If it doesn't settle you may need to consider an alternative form of contraception. Good luck

I've just finished my first time using Depo Provera.

I was fine for the first two weeks, but after that I bled every single day for the rest of the three months and more. It was light bleeding, but still very inconvenient.

I was due to get another injection about a month ago. I never went to get it because I didn't want to put up with the bleeding again. So when my current injection started to wear off, the bleeding got much heavier and is now heavier than my regular period. I also got EXTREMELY painful cramps for a few weeks. I still have bleeding, still heavy, a month later, so I'm seeing a doctor soon.

I definately wouldn't recommend it. There is another contraceptive injection which is similar to Depo, but has much less complaints. I'm not sure of the name but you should look into it.

By the way, when I got my injection, the nurse told me it was supposed to stop my periods completely. She didn't seem like she knew very much about what she was doing, so I'm not sure if she's right.

I was on the depo for 5 years. My periods stopped altogether after about 3 months.

I stopped the injection 2 years ago when my husband & I decided we wanted to start a family. My periods remained non existent for 25 months and have only just returned.

I will never go back on the depo unless my family is completed. It mucks up your system and they don't tell you that it takes that long for things to regulate until its too late!

TONS of women, a majority of them actually, have horrible side affects and health issues due to the shot.

I was on it for a long time and it was horrible. I'm now off of it, on the pill, and a lot healthier.

Irregular, nonexistant, or bleeding for months are normal on depo.

Please google "depo provera lawsuit" and check out the reviews on http://www.rateitall.com and see all the other horrible reviews of depo.

I took Depo for a few years. I had no periods while on it. I also gained weight, and I was very irritated "down there." I couldn't have sex, it was so painful. Kinda defeats the purpose of birth control! All symptoms stopped when I went off of it. Depo is a terrible drug . I will never put something like that in my body again.

It's very common with Depo-Provera. It's the #1 side effect. #2 is weight gain. I'm surprised your doctor didn't tell you.

my doctor offered me this as i have endometriosis and the only way to be rid of my symptoms was either to get pregnant or force a false menopause. the injections and the implants, i was told, would eventually stop periods and dry my womb which means to have comfortable sex i would have to have started using lubricants which irritate me beyond belief with the side effects their use produces. i chose to stick with the pill.

I haven't had a period for three years. I've only gained 10 pounds in three years. That's not really bad.
