Before my daughter goes to sleep we put out cookies and milk for santa and take a bucket and fill it with corn and place outside for the reindeer. We live in the country so we do have lots of deer around our house and they will eat it. Once she is asleep I take my husbands shoes and cover the bottoms with green, gold, and red glitter and make footprints that lead up our sidewalk to our front door. My husband puts out the santa gifts and I turn our living room into a winter wonderland. I hang tons of snowflakes from the ceiling and sprinkle silver glitter under the tree. We each eat some of the cookies and drink some of the milk while we look at our tree and talk about the blessings that we have in our lives.

I'm really anxious the see the reaction on my kids faces when they see their gifts, too. They ususally open one gift on Christmas Eve, and it's usually pajamas (family tradition). We also have a big dinner, and my mother-in-law reads the Christmas story from Luke in the Bible. While the kids are asleep we decorate the living room with Santa gifts and eat up the cookies and milk. Sometimes we do last-minute wrapping, but that's usually done by then. Should be great! What I'm looking forward to the most, though, is seeing my sister on Christmas Eve this year. We'll be picking her up at the airport late that night and bringing her home to celebrate the holidays with us. I only get to see her several times a year, and I'm really close to her, so seeing her again is a real treat for me. She'll be the best Christmas present ever!

Well I hate the shopping part of Christmas because we usually buy everything in the last week because we don't have much money, but we always come through and get wonderful things for the kids so that is the best part. It's all about the kids now.

Stuff my daughters stocking, finish up wrapping or putting stuff together, and then we sit down to a Christmas movie and eat the cookies and drink the milk she leaves for Santa, lol. She also leaves carrots for the reindeer, and we feed those to the dog. I love Christmas eve. It's just as exciting for me now as it was when I was a kid, just in a different way :)

My kids are all grown and having kids of their own. My husband and I prefer to spend Christmas alone (we can see them on other days) ... we'll go to a movie, and then come home and eat hors d'oeuvres for dinner (my husband makes the BEST breaded oysters wrapped in stuffing and other wonderful goodies). On Christmas Eve, we will be having fresh whole dungeness crab for dinner, and will open one gift each ... I'm getting a new bathrobe, and he doesn't know it, but I got him a 'I put it together myself' set of 'pajamas' ... a WoW tee-shirt and hoodie, and a nice pair of black+white=grey pants. We'll go to bed at 11, and sleep in, and may lie in bed for a few minutes being very glad they are all so understanding about us not wanting to be there on Christmas ... and might even GO BACK TO SLEEP.
Of course you love your Christmas Eve traditions ... as I did mine when my kids were small. I love my grandkids, too, but excuse me if four kids who are now having kids of their own, and who have 'in-laws' who also love Christmas Eve and Christmas day are FAR TOO MANY PEOPLE to handle ... so we 'bow out' on Christmas quite happily, and will visit our grandkids and kids on a more 'normal' day ...

This year it will be getting the gifts that are hidden away at another house and putting them under the tree and then getting some sleep. (the boys wake up early on christmas day).

We fill the stocking, (1 kid), put out Santa's gift (the biggest gift of course!), Finish up any wrapping that was not done, & think about how much she will love her presents!
Oh yeah, & my husband eats the cookies & milk!
