The Mets collapsed the second half of the season and didn't even make the playoffs, yet they've yet to improve their team while other teams are getting better (Braves, D-Backs, Dodgers) They may have even gotten worse this offseason by losing LoDuca, Milledge, Glavine and Green

LoDuca wasn't very good, Milledge won't live up to his potential and he got traded, and Glavine and Green are too old. They can't make a trade for a great player because they don't have a deep enough minor league system. There aren't many holes on the Mets to fill other than pitching wich they have gotten Brian Stokes, Ryan Church, Brian Schnieder, and Duaner Sanchez is coming back.

LoDuca called a good ball game and hit for average, which that team needs. Glavine was your only consistent starter last year, and by refusing to trade Milledge in past years you lost out on some definate top notch talent. With the Haren trade being made the dominos will start to fall on Bedard, Santana and Blanton and I think the Mets have the best chance at Bedard, considering the other two major players for him are Boston and the Yankees and the O's don't want to trade him in the division. If you don't get him look for Bartolo Colon and/or Livan Hernandez, yeah they are both a bit older, and their skills have diminished a bit but they are tanks on the mound and inning eaters, real gamers who will do what it takes to win, last I remember Colon can hit the ball too. Other than that pray that some of the kids can keep up what they started last year (Maine not collapsing after the all-star break, Pelfrey not decomposing when he makes the jump from AAA) and the Mets should be able to compete, at least with the Phils and Braves for their division crown.

If they couldn't get it done last season I don't see them doing it this upcomming year. You are counting on a rotation of Perez, Martinez, Maine, Hernandez, and either Pelfrey or Humber. Pedro and Orlando are injuries waiting to happen, Perez up and down, Maine faltered down the stretch, who knows what Pelfrey and Humber will contribute. They may do better trying Heilman as a starter again. The catching situation is horrid. Can Alou, Beltan, and Delgado actually stay healthy an entire season, probably not. It could get ugly quickly if the group of older vets go down with injuries early. As you said other teams are improving, especially Arizona they have to be the favorites in the NL as of right now.

I'm a little concerned that Paul LoDuca's gone.

If you look at the trade that was made last night, Arizona giving up 6 prospects to Oakland for Haren. Omar doesn't have that kind of talent to trade. So, I think, what we have now is what they're going into the season with as far as pitchers go; which means if they don't hit alot, it'll be a long season.

Hey don't give up, the Mets have a big deal in the works and it will impove the team.
They had to give up LoDuca for a number of reasons and Castro is a good hitter.
Watch for the deal it will be a good one!
