Why is the Japanese governemnt denying the existence of Nanking Massacre and rewritting the cruel things done by them during world war two ??? They invaded China!!! Shame of the japanese governement! I just want to know why doesnt the government say sorry to the chinese. Is it a political issue or what???

In Japan, they are very nationalistic and when they do something wrong, they do not always want it to be known. They certainly would not want their people to know about the Rape of Nanking ... also for some time, they did not acknowledge that the US had gotten the better of them during WWII... it's just Japanese pride

The biggest reason would be that Hirohito's brother, Prince Chichibu, was in China at the time. As Chichibu had to know what was going on, it makes it difficult to deny that his own brother had no knowledge of what went on. Since Hirohito's supposed innocence is very important to the continuing status of the emperor, Japanese feel compelled to deny the Nanjing Massacre more so than other atrocities.

The Japanese culture is focused on pride. It is hard for their culture to admit wrong-doing. But don't think that this is a weakness of only the Japanese government. During WW II the U.S. had concentration camps for american citizens who had Japanese heritage. Anyone who was not at least a 3rd generation, born-on-american-soil individual was forced into these camps. We intered our own people out of fear and ignorance. Our government doesn't like to admit that and most history books only give this incident a paragraph, if its even mentioned at all. Governments in general don't like to admit wrong-doing or mistakes.

I usually trust the CSM as a neutral observer on these types of subjects.Of course no government likes to be reminded of actions which they had no control over. That is the nature of the world.
Added later: To compare Auschwitz or Treblinka to American internment camps of the 2nd World War is just another example of the complete idiocy sometimes found on this forum.

They probably got a good lawyer who told them to deny everything and admit to nothing. I have a friend who teaches at the US Armed Forces school in Japan and he says that in the japanese history books world war two has been reduced to two paragraphs and refers to the period as a time of unpleasantness. Is it any wonder they don't want to be reminded of those newspaper and Life Magazine pictures of japanese soldiors throwing babies into the air and catching them on the points of bayonets while they danced around fires of burning furniture and yada?
