I am petrified of rodents. Most people, including my boyfriend react to my fear by telling me "it's more afraid of you..." I clearly find no comfort in this but it's all I ever get. Last nite to my boyfriend finally tried a new approach. While I was freaking out he sternly told me to stop it, then he ignored me. After a few min. he then acted annoyed by the situation. After calming down and reassuring him that I was all right and to not worry anymore he then told me to stop it again, only this time he yelled. Perhaps this is a new treatment for phobias I don't know about. Who needs therapy when they have this kind of support from their loved ones huh?

Your boyfriend was just tired and frustrated and didn't mean to yell at you. Not frustrated with you but with the rodent problem. True enough as some have stated here he shouldn't have yelled at you but I am sure he is sorry and will work on being more empathetic in the future.

The frustration though was probably caused by several different things:

1. Feeling helpless when it comes to relieving your discomfort
2. Feeling helpless regarding preventing the same from re-occurring
3. Finding and removing a rodent is usually neither quick nor an easy task (and anyone who has been in this type of situation can relate) especially with someone who is panicking

Lets be real. On this particular occasion, and not as an excuse for any particular behavior rather as some insight, being startled awake in the middle of the night in itself can be trial-some but add to that a very stressful situation involving someone you care about. Waking up to a situation like this and thinking straight instantly is not natural for many people.

I could go on with other rationale but that isn't the point. The point is that as evidence in this particular situation, when people are faced with stressful ordeals they often are not as sensitive to or aware of the stress of others involved due to dealing with their own.

Thats not right.
Your boyfriend should scare off the rodents that are bugging you, not yell at you.
Next time you see a rodent tell you boyfriend how dearly afraid you are *In a calm/nice way* Have a little conversation of what you are afraid of. Maybe he'll tell you some of his phobias and you can ask him why he is so afraid of whatever he's afraid of. Than you can compare his fears to your fears. Then he should realize how frightened you are.
GOOD LUCK!

Phobias are not understood by those that don't have them, for the most part. To get over your fear of rodents you have to gradually desensitize yourself by looking at pictures until you are comfortable then maybe go to a pet store and look at a hamster in a cage from far away until your comfortable, etc. Your boyfriend is only making it worse for you.

I think you are right to be scared by rats and mice. Some rats can jump up to 2 feet when cornered and have teeth sharper than a kitchen knife. When they bite they can cause many deadly deseases icluding rabies and more people die every year in the world from deseases passed on from rodents than die in traffic accidents. There teeth are also covered with ammonium ferric citrate which is the most powerful canserogenic known to man. Also you know that you accidently eat 5 spiders a year in your sleep, well every five years you are likely to have a rodent try to crawl into your mouth. And in urban areas, including your average flat, you are never more than 10 meters from a rat. Don't let your friends tell you otherwise, you should be scared of rodents because they can be lethal.

And you call him a boyfriend? He sounds like a control freak to me. What's he going to do when you have labor pains? Yell at you and tell you not to scream?
This is not well behavior on his part.
If you're afraid of rodents, then you are. If it's irrational then so what? Your fear is real to you and that's all that matters.
Drop kick this boy! He's not a nice person.
