After Alexander the Great died, his generals split up his empire. A general named Ptolemy took over Egypt and started the whole Ptolemy and Cleopatra line. So that means she was Greek/Macedonian, with maybe some local influences in her genes.

tikki tikki tembo, something something bembo....(-: Sorry, it depends on which Cleopatra you mean, as there were 7 or 8. The one we know from Shakespeare and Hollywood was Macedonian/Greek.
