I have to admit, I have never truly liked giving twins names that begin with the same letter but I do like the names Lauren and Liam. However, Rachel and Ryan are nice too. However, neither of these have nicknames.
If you really like Abby and Alex you could always start with Abigail and Alexander and then call then Abby and Alex for short.
But since you asked specifically which set I liked better I am going to cast my vote for Lauren and Liam.

The ONLY combinations of the above I would personally use would be ...
Simon and Rachel
Simon and (possibly) Lauren
Liam and Rachel
Liam and Sarah
Ryan and Sarah
Ryan and (possibly) Lauren
*** not sure if I'd use two N-endings together or not.
But no, I can't say I care for any of the stereotypically cutesy/cheesy, nearly identical combos currently listed, not to mention the childish nicknames Abby (like the stomach muscles? LOL) and Alex as given names. Not at all.

Favorite to least:
Best: Sarah and Simon (love nickname Sadie for Sarah)
Lauren and Liam - Love Liam, like Laura or Laurel better than Lauren
Rachel and Ryan - Not fond of Rachel
Abby and Alex (two nicknamey, full names would be better)

Rachel and Ryan
are the best.
Liam doesn't match Lauren.
Same with Sarah and Simon

I like Rachel and Ryan. They are both names that most people wont have a problem spelling or pronouncing. They do have nick names... Rachel: Rach, Ray, Rachie. Ryan, Ry, Ry Ry. But I would never pick a name based on the nick names (a person is an adult most of their life, lol.) Plus they are both gender specific. Good luck!
