to the person who posted above me: who created god then? oh so he can exist in and of himself, but something a lot more plausible, like a "gas" (which really has nothing to do with the big bang, but i'll humor you) can't? and please don't try to tell me that we as mortals can't understand god's motives, because you can make this same argument for a scientific explanation, that we can't completely understand the creation as of yet. however, science does not imply an understanding or a need for understanding or purpose, unlike religion; science merely reports factual evidence which sometimes elicits speculation (it is not an intrinsic part), speculation is a requirement for religion, not for science.

As far as the actual question:
Well the big bang theory only works if you suppose that it was the first event in our universe's timeline. if god existed before it, then it's not the big bang theory, it's just another theist argument for god.

there are several theories for why the big bang occurred. one is that the universe is cyclical, that the universe expands, hits a point and then retracts down to a nothing point and then another big bang occurs etc.

this was the more or less commonly accepted theory until a few years ago when someone measured the speed of planets moving and realized that they are moving away from each other FASTER than they did at the big bang, that the universe is actually expanding quicker than it did initially. This presupposes a "big freeze" where planets move so far away from each other that their gravity no longer interacts and everything basically stops moving as a result (we're talking on a scale of trillions of years).

Another, more modern theory of the big bang is that the universe, seemingly arbitrarily, split. That the universe was nothing and this nothing split into two pieces, positive and negative, which when combined equal zero, and what we percieve is the positively charged aspect of this split, and that which we can not percieve (commonly referred to as dark matter; think black holes). it's basically like saying -5 + 5= 0 and that 0=0. both of these statements are true, but it is only that we exist in the first equation and what we percieve is the "5" although the "-5" is implied.
this is by far hailed as the most enticing and modern understanding of the creation of the universe by scientists although many other theories are under consideration.

there is also the "bubble" theory that ties in with the last philosophy. the major difference is that it says that our universe is a bubble in which there exists an alternative universe that is slightly different and the creation of that one creates another etc. this philisophy is used by a lot of scientists to explain parts of quantum theory we don't understand. think of this one as a lot closer to -5 + 6 + -3 + 2 = 0, except the numbers keep expanding so next a -4 universe is created and then two +2s are created in order to even it out.

"P2 - Everything that is cannot be smaller or larger than itself. Because everything is not realtive to anything." What about density? Density/volume show that everything that is can be smaller or larger than itself. Try the ideal gas law. "P3 - It cannot be expading into empty space - because space is part of the Universe. It cannot expand into nothing, because nothing does not exist." This contradicts your statements above. "Every thing that is" is your definition of the universe. Emptiness is not something. It is not matter, it has no energy, it is the absence of something. "because nothing does not exist" Kind of a rediculous statement. Does not exist is the definition of nothing. Truisms don't prove a point. "P1 - Scientists say that time was created at the Big Bang. Therefore there is no "Before" the Big Bang." Hence relativity, which explains the whole point you are trying to make in this line of reasoning. Time doesn't exist at a singularity, which is what the Big Bang claimed existed the instant the Big Bang happened.

It's a hard question to answer. No one is really sure about how the universe was first born. I would agree with the Big Bang theory because there is no evidence that it is wrong... then again there is no evidence that the theory is right. Science, my friend, is like Chris Rock swirling down a giant platypus on a sled made out of flames. nuff said.

Well, I think this poster refers to deism, and I think this may be true. Deism: God created world, made physical rules and than he said: Go! And everything went on like God wanted to. And God doesn`t control it any more.

This has for me two aspects: God created world and gave him but a little freedom, or God made it strictly deterministic. If it is determined, I believe that God as first cause controls whole world, because when he was, he knew what he is doing, so he affected whole world (past, presence, and future ) at the time of creation. And then I don`t see any difference between this deterministic deism and teism.

And finally my opinion: I agree, that God created world, BUT he gave it freedom from his will.

Agree. Your theory, as you said is not actually the big bang theory you just use the words big bang to get some attention.
God.Universe. that is your theory. through God's word the universe is made.TRUE!
I'm not going to use any science nor any biblical passage to support my statement. All I need is you to comprehend all these sentences that will follow.

Do you have a computer? where is it located? who put it there? SOmeone, right?
Do you have a pen? who made that pen? someone, right?
Do you have a house? Who made that house? someone, right?
Is there a universe? Yes, there is a universe. Who made that universe?NO! The universe has no creator? HA! how come that universe is now existing? simple? it came from a very very big gas. After billion years, it exploded then the universe was formed through this gas? Ah I see. So where does the big explosion came from? From the very very big gas? So where the gas came from? The gas came from no where. Ha ha ha. There is an existing gas without someone who made it. Okay, let us assume that the big bang theory is true. My question is: Who made that Gas? who put that gas in its existence? Don't tell me, it just evolve through itself. Ha ha ha'. Of course, it has origin. Nothing moves, unless it is move by something else.
The main point is that every little existence in the universe is a result of a particular perfect being. Perfect in the sense that it attain its particular perfection in the field of his very being.

child.boy.teener.then an adult.
As you see the evolution of the child it has an starting point;birth, child, teener, adult, death.
Who made that child,the parent,
who made the parent? grandparents.
who made the grandparents? so on and on.
Where is the origin of those grand grandparents?
Don't tell me, they just exist through themselves.
Someone made this possible.
Only a being who is not subjet to time has the power to create and to take it away.
A particular thing will move if you move it.
Going back to the big bang theory, even though we asume that this theory is true, still, it needs a creator. GAS cannot exist without someone who put that gas. Therefore, through God's word, BANG. universe was made. Hope you get it.

The big bang theory is just that ,"a theory".I do believe that God created the heavens, and Earth, and all of it's creation. Regardless of how, it was created. I'm more concerned with Who created it.The answer to that of course being God.

Well, the big bang theory really is a crock of poo right now because it isn't a satisfactory model of the universe (not because God is great or whatever).

Christians are really funny, instead of reading the bible, go open a history book and learn about things that actually happened.

"In the beginning God moved"
The Primeval Atom expanded.
All matter and all energy comes from the the Primeval Atom of the big bang.
What is God?

Here is an Idea that a Close Catholic friend of mine proposed. In a nutshell, why are we judging God's sense of time. His day might be thousands of years to us. Every one assumes that His day is the same as ours. Why? Think about it.
