Is the artic ice cap melting because of the myth of global warming? Or is warming real?

There is half as much ice as there was 30 years ago. And it's dissappearing faster.

That seems pretty drastic.

The artic cap is not within 1% of normal. It is at the lowest point it has ever been in recorded time.

The Antarctic cap is growing because it is snowing more in Antarctica. It is usually too cold to snow making it technically a desert, with less than 10 inches of precipitation per year.

The whole universe is not warming up.

Please provide information showing it is. There were a flurry of stories a few years ago saying the Martian cap was melting but that was because of normal seasonal changes.

It is melting - there is no argument or doubt

The earth is getting warmer there is no argument

What there is argument over is cause - Why

But it does not matter why - at least not as much as those who are in the oil business want you to believe

If things are getting warmer - as they are things need to be done no matter the reason for it

Example - secure food crops in a warmer enviorment

Secure power sources that are not oil - Oil leads to pollution and increases foreign dependency

Secure power sources and food - sounds like common sense

But no no we are caught up in what seems an engineered argument of cause that is purposely designed to slow or stop change that is necessary for the viability of the economy

We can argue the cause later -

The globe is warming and we are going to have to change farming and oil is a foreign leverage that we should limit and it does kill people daily because of it's toxic effects

Levies to protect fresh water supplies need to be built more than we need another study on whether it is the sun the C02 or a natural cycle -

The evidence is that the earth is getting warmer, and there is a high probability that much of it is due to the burning of fossil fuels. A recent theory has suggested that part of the warming could be due to the enhanced solar activity causing an increase in cloud cover that traps heat. We have known that sun has gotten slightly more active for some time, but the direct effect was not enough to account for the earths warming. However scientist do not yet understand how the addition high energy radiation will effect the upper atmosphere forming clouds.
There are many reasons to reduce energy consumption, especially oil, besides global warming, so it seems prudent to do so whether or not fossil fuel is the primary cause of the warming. We should also realize that the earth is going to get warmer no matter what the cause. Even it we could stop all CO2 production today, their is a lag in it's warming effect so the warming would continue for decades, and the amount that is due to natural causes is out of our control.

The south poles ice pack is growing. And the north pole is within 1 percent of normal. The current conditions are what you should really look at . Not what the alarmists on the left want you to believe. Mans part in global warming is a lie. Scientists are having to put observation posts on stilts to keep them above the growing ice pack as seen on the discovery channel. Ice in areas is melting due to temporary weather changes. Yet in other parts of the world the ice is growing. When you see video of glaciers crumbling at the face that is not melting. It is caving the sign of an advancing glacier. Believe what you want. In a few years there will be so many holes in the global warming theory even you will see the truth.

Oh the ice is melting alright. However that we, people, are responsible or can stop it is a load of bull. After all the poles on mars are also melting. Must be those darn martian SUVs. When will people wake up and realize that this whole global warming hysteria is just a way to squeeze more money out of the peasants. First and foremost the head Guru Al Gore. He is getting filthy rich buying carbon offsets from his own company, meaning he is taking money out of his right pocket and putting into the left one, along with the money from the other suckers buying offsets.

A thin spot in the Earth's crust is enabling underground magma to melt Greenland's ice, scientists at the Ohio State University feel.

According to them, the "hotspot" is located in the northeast corner of Greenland -- just below a site where an ice stream was recently discovered. The researchers don't yet know how warm the hotspot is, but if it is warm enough to melt the ice above it even a little, it could enable the ice to slide more rapidly out to sea.

To measure actual temperatures beneath the ice, scientists will have to drill boreholes down to the base of the ice sheet-- a mile or more below the ice surface. The effort and expense make such measurements few and far between, especially in remote areas of northeast Greenland. "The behaviour of the great ice sheets is an important barometer of global climate change," said Ralph von Frese, leader of the project and a professor of earth sciences at Ohio State University.
