Christmas was always my mom's favorite holiday and you felt like it was special when you were around her however, when I was the one trying to create that special time I became upset with the whole thing. It was the stress of spending beyond ones means that was getting to me and the stress of my second husband's humbug attitude about it all. My grandmom died on Dec 23rd many years ago, my mom died almost two years ago, and my dad died Dec. 29Th of last year but amazingly I don't feel depressed about it and Christmas is going to be just fine. I realize now that my mom actually didn't spend that much on the gifts, she just decked the halls, and showed more love with each year. She would sit at the piano and play Christmas songs singing until we all joined in. Always a smile on her face and a hug for us all.......that was my mom and the joy of Christmas came from her love. So this year I'm just going to deck the halls, sing the songs, and smile through it all. I'm going to shower those around me with hugs and buy from my heart instead of listening to the materialistic hum that tries to beckon us all to spend, spend, spend. I guess I just want you to know that it is more about being together with someone you care about then it is about the gifts. Gifts eventually fall apart and are forgotten.......people that you love stay with you forever. Merry Christmas everyone. Merry Christmas Mom and Dad. I love you so much.

Maybe have an un-christmas party. Do your place up with summer and beach themed stuff. Invite people over to sip frozen dacqueries while wearing bathing suits. Make hot dogs and hamburgers on a foreman grill. Kind of like a christmas-in-july but in reverse.

I hear you. Its all about gifts, drinking, spending time with family members who dont bother with you all year, spending money you dont have and putting yourself in debt,, yes, i sound like scrooge. The things that make me happy and give me cheer, is the lights, the xmas trees, the music, watching my grandchildren delight in santa claus, and being thankful, for good health for me and my loved ones. Enjoy the festivity of the season and youll get through it

Wow. How can someone not like Christmas?

Get over it and find something to be happy about. People aren't supposed to be happy all the time, but living in a perpetual gloom is worse. And it makes you unattractive.

Holiday blues commonly refers to someone feeling lonely at Christmas.
You are describing something else. It sounds like you don't like Christmas....you think it's phony.
Well, tune it out. Focus on something else like Winter Solstice, Yule, whatever.
Don't focus on it if you don't like it.

I agree, do what you feel like doing. Tell people you're not interested in exchanging presents.
