Is there a safe deposit box or something in Tijuana to keep your belongings safe? I don't want to carry my passport or drivers licence. Mainly because I might run into the federale and I can say that I'm poor.

You can get a passport holder or "trvel wallet, that hangs around your neck in a pouch under your shirt. Why on earth do you think you will have trouble from the "fedrales?" You should have your I.D. WITH you.

I always keep my passport with me. I do this in case I'm in an accident or need to identify myself. It is true that in some countries, like the Middle East, your passport will be taken and kept in a safe place once you've checked into a hotel and will be given back when you check out.

There's little item you can wear inside your clothing that holds a passport and money. Good hotels have safes...don't bring anything you can't afford to lose. The federales don't want you unless you're representing the cartels.

Sorry, but I think Tijuana is the armpit of Mexico and would look for more interesting and safe places to visit (like Mazatlan, Mexico City, Guadalajara or Merida). I find Tijuana to be dirty and unsafe in general and have major embarrassment as I watch my fellow American tourists act like the tourists from Hades while there. I don't think many Mexicans enjoy going there either and there are no scenic natural areas near there (except for the Pacific Ocean - and there are better spots for enjoying that).

Some hotels have a safe for their guests to keep items in.
