until i moved south, i have never heard whenever replace when in a sentence
ex: i will call you whenever i get there.
is this a correct?

to me whenever seems less definite.
like ill buy you a house whenever i win the lotto

Its right but it sure does make it seem like the person saying "whenever I get there" isnt real exited about coming, or in too much of a rush. I guess when a bill collector calls and you say "I'll pay you whenever I get the $." thats okay, but never say it to your friends. Tell your friends "I'll call you WHEN I get there." Just to make it sound better, and like you actually want to.

Whenever I see him, he tries to avoid me.
The above sentence means that he always tries to avoid me when I try to see him.
When she woke up, she heard a noise.
There is a difference. 'Whenever' applies to something that happens all the time, whereas 'when' can apply to some of the time or all the time.

It's a regional usage. For example, when I lived in Philadelphia, we always said, "in line," and when I moved to New York, everyone says "on line." Both are okay.

both are grammatically right..
i will call u whenever i get there.. gives you more assurance than ".....when i get there"
