i have been having some nasty sewer smell for a while when we wash clothes and dishes. i heard it may be a blocked vent pipe, but some buddies of mine said that i might have to pump the d box in my leeching field? i didn't even know a leeching field had such a thing? is this true, do i have to pump this box in my leeching field?

No the d box "short for distribution box" has one pipe coming in from the septic tank and multiple pipes leaving and distributing the water to the leeching field, septic tank needs to be pumped out from time to time, but if you have a problem with the d box it would mean that your leeching field is saturated and needs to be re done, hopefully this is not the case.
