...you're in luck; VCI Entertainment, who has over the years, has put out the most definitive and best quality edition of the 1951 version of "A Christmas Carol", starring Alistar Sim, has recently released a two-disc anniversary special edition; it contains both the original black & white and colorized versions of the film, all sorts of fantastic & interesting extras and special features, as well as an additional version of "...Carol", the rarely seen 1935 version, starring Seymour Hicks (...hopefully, the one you are referring to). I have included the Amazon webpage, which describes the DVD item, but you can probably get it cheaper, and more local, if you looked (...i.e., Best Buy, Circuit City, Walmart, etc.)

Sounds like you want the version with Alistar Cook. I may have spelled his name wrong. There have been dozens of versions since then, even musical versions, as you well know. I actually have a copy that I taped on my VCR about 5 years ago when WGN tv was hosting a special presention of it. Lucky me I also got the black and white shorts: Hardrock, Coco and Joe, Suzie Snowflake, and Frosty the snowman. They were all part of that special presentation of Scrooge. Not to brag, but I also have the Jim Backus', Mr. Magoo's Christmas Carol too. They don't run it anymore either. You're interest makes me think you are about my age. I just love the Christmas classics from my youth. I remember when they used to run It's A Wonderful Life over and over. Finish on one channel and it would be in the middle or starting on another all Christmas eve night. Fortunately, I have a black and white copy of that too. Ahhh, thanks for the trip down memory lane.
Anyway, try amazon.com
They have a lot of the older movies available. I have found classic African-American films on there like: Cornbread, Earl and Me and Five on the Black Hand Side. Just to tell you how obscure their listing is! I also recommend Amazon.com because I've never had a problem with being scammed, like all the ebay stories I hear about. Whatever I've ordered has been the price listed, shipping listed and gets to me or whomever I sent it to. Be sure to look up the correct spelling of the actor's name.
Edit: See what I mean? I just read the other posts and someone said Alistar Sim, which also might be correct. Hope you find it!
Merry Christmas!
