Internal conversations are pretty normal ... it's more the extent that we let it affect our lives that gets annoying. I find myself doing the same thing all the time (and I passed 18 a little over 20 years ago) You just have to learn to quiet them down. Don't put yourself to living based on other people, it's about what works for you ... I have friends who have what seems like everything, job, money house etc - they're never happy or satisfied. On the other hand I've got some friends who get by ok - they've had enough setbacks in life that you'd think they'd quit at some point yet they laugh and seem to really feel "this too shall pass" and it's true. Things do pass - both the good times and bad times, so it's just a matter of don't let the bad get you too far down find ways to get through them. And don't always expect that the great moments will fill all your days - or you'll be disappointed. Unfortunately everyones ups and downs can't be at the same time ... so when you look at someone who seems to be on top of the world you have to know at some point they're going to have bad days, months, whatever, as well and you may not even see when it's going on but it has at some point. Just work to be the person you want to be, do what you love and what you feel is right. Don't look at what other people appear to have, because you never see inside their lives and it may not be as rosey as the outside. I've seen enough failure from places I never expected because it appeared so perfect.

First - this mental conversation you are having is normal - we all do this. The problem is that you need to take it from thinking about it to doing something about it. Write down goals. If you want to make a lot of money, the first thing you need to do is get an education. If your grades weren't the best, start at a junior college, work hard then transfer to a 4 year college. Get a job. Working and balancing that with getting an education teaches you skills that will carry you a lifetime. Do volunteer work for a few hours per week. This is the fastest way you can improve your self-image and help others to. Doing something good for someone else always makes you feel good. Life will always be unfair. Just pick yourself back up after a setback, put one foot in front of the other and start back on the path towards your goals. Aiming for a 6 figure income in a short period of time is unrealistic. Aiming for a $20,000 a year income in a year and a half is more realistic and then aim for a higher and higher income each year by working hard, doing quality work. Everyone has dreams but you also need to keep them real. Without the foundation (education, work ethic), your dreams will be almost impossible to achieve. By building important blocks in your foundation, you can achieve whatever you want. It is a matter of determination and action.

I apologize for this, but I'm about to leave work and be busy for about the next 6+ hours. I am writing this now so I can mark your question and find it easily when I have more time later on to answer your question.

I will try to come back and edit this either this afternoon or some time tonight around/after midnight EST.

Most of the human minds are like wise. People always talk in their heads, you stop thinking more about yourself, think about what other people thinks or observe other people. After a while you will understand that you are luckier than most of the other fellows.

The best way to predict the future is to create it.
What are you doing to make your dreams a reality? As someone suggested, do something.

Just by being reponsible and dedicated.
Put you good goals maped out and then put them into actions, but first figure out what would it take to get there and how long and are you willing to wait long.

You are insecure about yourself. Talk to a counselor or adult you trust.

You don't have to keep up with the Joneses if you don't want to. Be yourself.
