Hi, I got the motor online as my beemer dealer said it needs replacing but they want to charge me £430!!!!

But I cannot even find the front wiper motor inside the engine compartment which suggests its probably behind the dash, is that so and can a novice like me replace it and if so how?

Its a bmw 318i E36 1998. Thank you.

the wiper motor is located under the plastic bulkhead strip, the wiper arms stick through it. it is held down by plastic clips/ screws, they always break about £2.50 for ten from bmw dealer, once trim is removed the motor is easily changed over, gently pull off arms at ball sockets, undo elec block conector and remove mountains screws, i think there are four screws, refit in reverse order. good idea to lube linkage while you are at it.

First you may rmove the wiper blades and palms. The palms could be slightly complicated, fairly in the event that they have never been bumped off. as quickly as you address that, something is common. get rid of the screws that carry down the canopy cover and get rid of it. as quickly because it has bumped off, you will have the skill to make certain the motor. At this factor, i might turn the foremost forward to the on place and use a small screwdriver or socket extension and gently faucet the motor to make certain in case you will get the palms to park. This generally make it much less stressful to get rid of the motor. the two way, the linkage palms could be disconnected from the motor. i'm extraordinarily specific Jeep makes use of an identical soreness interior the A** white busings as they do of their different vehicles. with any luck you are able to separate those with out destroying them, if no longer the LPS could have them. With the linkage disconnected, purely get rid of the bolts and replace the motor. opposite your removing technique and provide it a attempt in the previous you place all of it decrease back at the same time to confirm that it particularly develop into the motor and not the wiper change. sturdy success.

Go to a local garage and enquire. I drive a 330 but never go to the main beemer dealers too expensive.
