I know this question is probably often used as lateral or psychological questions... but really, how would YOU describe a certain color to someone who is blind? :-S

My brother was blinded when he was 9 from a brain tumor and could not really remember what colors looked liked as the years went by. I used to use concrete things to descibe them to him. I used to tell him yellow was the feeling from the warm sun, pink was the color of a soft kiss, blue was the sound of water splashing, white was the feeling of snow falling on your face, brown was the bark from trees and numerous others I can't remember anymore. I believe it really didn't matter to him actually because he had other more important things to worry about in daily living.

Several people above gave good ideas about how to do it - but remember that many (I would guess far more than half) blind or visually impaired people have not always been blind, and have vivid memory of colours.
My late wife was legally blind (less than 10% vision, no central vision whatsoever, lost her sight at age 22), but she still picked out my clothes for me!

Blind people have no concept of the different colors. You may explain what colors look like, but it does no good since you have to use comparisons with other colors. However, you can teach blind people different colors through the names colors are called.

I think it helps if you can associate it with an emotion....eg: orange is a happy colour...blue is a calm colour ect or even associated with another sense eg yellow is a warm colour
