What did Rachel Carson mean by a "silent spring"? Do you think response to her concerns has been too much, not active enough, or about right? Explain.

I had never heard of this person.

I did some looking and found this website: http://www.rachelcarson.org/

This is a quote, " Her witness for the beauty and integrity of life continues to inspire new generations to protect the living world and all its creatures."

My first thought is she was radical for her time. It appears some people did think she was a pest. Seems to be a very interesting woman.

"Silent Spring" My thought is people will not take care of the earth. At some point the earth cannot take all what man has done to her. Spring is the beginning of new life - when it is gone, spring will be silent.

My Opinion
What she meant should bring tears to the eye of every man, woman and child.
Can you imagine waking up some morning regardless of the time of year and not hearing the birds chirping or see any leaves on the trees to see the earth collapse before your very eyes.
The rivers, lakes and oceans run with the stench of pollution and death.
I don't want my world to be full of all that people hand out, not only the pollution of the earth but the pollution of the mind as well.
We are well on the road to "Doom and Gloom".
All from the likes of the care takers.

There are other pesticides that work better than DDT. Permethrin, for example, kills mosquitoes and also repels them. DDT does not have a repellent effect.
