Marriage Registration?

Which Indian Government offices do marriage registration under special marriage act. Its understood that 30 notice is required for this marriage, I am working in abroad and my would be is in India, is it possible to give 30 days notice from abroad and return to india during marriage. Only legal experts please answer

Marriage under the Special Marriage Act, 1954 requires 30 days notice for such marriage. This notice has to be given by both the parties to the marriage, meaning that both of them have to be present in person before the Marriage Officer/registrar at the time of giving such notice for the marriage as well at the time of marriage. You cannot give notice while sitting abroad & come for marriage on the date of marriage only, this not the procedure allowed in this case of marriage in India under this Act. The Marriage Officer is usually the Deputy Commissioner D.C. or A.D.C of the district where any of the parties resides for not less then 30 days before giving such notice for the marriage.

It is not necessary for you to come down to India now to file an application. You can ask someone to take the application from any marriage registrar office and jointly with your would be apply for marriage registration. The office in return, will exhibit your application in the notice board and ask if anyone has any objection for your marriage. If there is no objection from anyone, you can get married after 30 days under Special Marriage Act. The marriage registration officer is the Registrar of the local registration office (where you register your land etc.)
