They don't ask for permission, they just do it. A lot of ppl get upset and request not to be taped. The people are real, though.

Did you hear about the attorney that went to the house, got arrested, released, did not show up for his court date and when they went to arrest him committed suicide? Now his family is suing NBC saying that they caused his suicide.

Yep, Roz, I think they are for real. Why do you not think they have permission to tape people who knowingly try to go after an underage girl? Those men are intent on committing a crime. I think it's pathetic and often funny. Dateline is doing a service to the world, detracting would-be predators and catching online predators.

It has to do with the rights you have in your own house. Sometimes I believe it's called a "king of castle rule" or "dominion" rule. Basically it's just like parents secretly filming babysitters watching their children at home. Generally you can do almost anything you want in your own house as long as you're not hurting or slandering anyone else, and while clearly being accused of attempting to have sex with a minor makes those guys look bad, they did those things, the house owners/producers didn't encourage/make them. Additionally, if you notice, they're only filming people who are later convicted - therefore they're not showing anything potentially slanderous because the guilty deed is a direct result of each man's independent actions. Otherwise, once in police custody you can legally be filmed, or on a public street/in a public place - like paparazzi photos of celebrities.. Most lawsuits you see in terms of things like sex tapes and other harmful videos stem from the fact that the videos are of people doing things in their own homes. make sense/

They don't have permission to show all the people, have you ever noticed that sometimes the faces are blurred out? Yes I think they are real, just go into any dating chat room and present yourself as an under age person and you will be flooded with responses from people who want sex with underage people.

Its real... its the news, and once you are a sex offender, you no longer have as many rights to privacy.... you can look up sex offenders online and their picture, address, description, and offense will be right there.

The way the laws state it is that the public has a right to know who the sex offenders are and what they are guilty of .... to protect themselves and others against such offenders.

They are real. You do bring up an interesting point though. Perhaps the law enforcement personnel subscribe to the "trash" is free to search philosophy....
