Its a way of telling someone your sorry for them loosing someone they Love. It really doesn't help but its nice to know others care.
The one thing that bugged me when my baby died people kept asking "how are you?"
"how are you feeling ?*
How are you coping?"
All i wanted to say was," I'm not coping i miss my baby ,and i have so much pain inside that i think of killing myself everyday"
But id just smile and say "I'm fine" because i always have to be fine.
Sometimes people get too nosy about stuff like that.

I know that is difficulit to hear everyone say that they are sorry at the passing of someone you love. But, I think that they really don't know what else to say, and they feel like they atleast need to let you know that their hearts are hurting for you also. When someone passes everyone around them is affected in someway and most of the time when people are telling you they are sorry, they are also hurting alittle also. Just smile and say thank you.

Interesting question - I've wondered about that myself.

Perhaps though, the word "sorry" also has the meaning of sympathetic mourning, of commiseration and vicarious feelings.

Mr. Bonkers, your name speaks of your authenticity!
ans. What would you have someone say : "Congratulations???" and get a brisk handshake and several pats of an enthusiastic hand to the shoulder.
It's a FUNERAL! NOT the happiest of occasions, oh Sweet Mother of Pearl!!!

Because they try to say they feel pity for you, but they end up making SOME people really pis.ssed

When someone dies people should rather comfort by making them happy rather than making them more sad..

It's a common courtesy to say your sorry. It shows your respect by sending your condolenses. I personally probably wouldn't say this though...

It's an old tradition. It's known as expressing sympathy for the loss of (hopefully!) a loved one ! ! !
