First build is really challenging. BUT just follow the motherboard manual and you won't go wrong. You can actually test your build halfway through. Even w/out HDD, CD drive and FDD, bare minimum set up should be able to beep once, display POST and open BIOS menu.
After completing your build, OS installation is easy, about 40 minutes. After initially booting from OS installation CD, do not boot from CD again. Installation will proceed automatically, just follow the instructions. After the OS, immediately install the motherboard chipset drivers and drivers of other devices that you are installing on the graphics slot or PCI slots. PC is now ready for your favorite softwares/applications including games.

For a first timer fixing them can go smoothly, but the sofware bits, if you get rite, them BING! wallla...everything goes smooth. But if you get error message, then it becomes really challeging,(for first timer) or completely being put off!
But dont get put off, go for it, its all trial and error, soon you may be able to tell us tips and tricks from your own personal experience which will benefit us!
Like others said be carefull to follow the manuals and instructions properly, and most importantly because these components are compact, make sure you earth yourself and take precaution handling with static-sensitive component and regularly purge your body ofstatic charge.

It really depends on your level of expertise. Also depends on what you plan on adding to the computer. I would say on average based on my experience about 2-3 hours.

LMAo take your time building a computer.make sure you dont mess it up.Dont have to make it pretty, but you sure do need to make sure wires dont hit fans, get pinched, and are plugged in correctly. And dont forget the thermal grease on the cpu.
Then you have all the OS install, updates, drivers, misc tweaking and so forth........yeah looking at a few hours..
