Would you let your 14 year old son have a girlfriend? If so, would you let him go on a date to the movies at 9:00 PM with her? Could someone please give me some reasons for and against these questions? Thanks.

He can have a gf but the movies at 9 is too late. I think 16 is when dating is better. He should also have chaperon or group dates only. Have them hang over at your house so you can keep an eye on them. Too many teen pregnancies so make sure he knows about safety, responsibility and best to abstain.

It is reasonable to allow your 14 year old to have a girlfriend. If he wants to take her to the movies, klet them go to an earlier movie at maybe 7.30 or 8pm. This way, there will be more younger and/or family audience. At 9pm the movies will be attended by the older teens who may display behaviours that are not yet appropriate for a 14 year old with his first girllfriend. He may think this is the way he needs to act. As they mature and their relationship grows - so can their curfew.

In reality it isn't a bad thing for a girl to have a boyfriend as its not a bad thing for boyfriend to have a girlfriend at 14. The things to watch out for are real serious behavior. This happens throughout high school. Didn't you have a boyfriend or girlfriend in high school? Some people forget that they were young once too. If you refresh your memory back to those days you will have a better idea of where your kid is going.

Well, I don't have any kids yet but I think it's perfectly normal for a 14 year old boy to have a girlfriend. I had my first boyfriend 18 years ago, when I was 12. Going to the movies at 9pm though... that's a bit too late for them to be going out, considering that they're going to be gone for at least 2 hours... Maybe if you picked them up afterwards, it would be okay...

I'm not a mother, but I would definitely let my son have a girlfriend at 14. It's just an experience young teens need to go through to mature later in life. They're bound to hit more dramatic stuff in the future! I would let him go to the movies with his girlfriend at 9, yet I or his father better be the one to drop him off and pick him back up. Her parents/parent would do the same. Or I would offer to take both of them, but it's totally up to what her parents want.

Plus, I wouldn't chaperon them. I'm not sure what real parents think of this, but as an old teen, 17, I wouldn't have wanted my parents/parent chaperoning my boyfriend and I at 14. It'll feel awkward. Just a hint.

On the other hand, this all depends on the trust you have for your son. You don't want to be a grandmother yet, do you? Think about it for a while. You'll come up with something.

haha, I loved this question. You see parents asking about their daughters having boyfriends, and everyone is always like NO! wth, not till they're 18!!
And yet everyone said their son could have a girlfriend at 14.

Question of..
"At What Age Should I Let My 14 Year Old Daughter Have A Boyfriend?"

BTW, I am 19 and I would let my 14 yr old son OR daughter have a significant other..
Most children now a days get them at 12 without their parents even knowing.

Im 14, so you probably dont want my opinion, but im still gonna give it, personaly I dont bother dating cos all the guys I know are complete jerks. But yes let him date, it would be mean to stop him. Give him a cerfew, like 10 or 11 pm or something. Maybe dont let him be at your home or her home without any parents there (I know what 14 year old guys are like), but otherwise movies and stuff are fine.

Sure! Some 14 year-olds are mature enough to have a signficant other, without engaging in activities that parents dread. I had a girlfriend when I was 14.

But I would chaperone him and his date to the movie. I would let them sit in their own section, and I would sit a few rows back, keeping them in view.

Of course I would let my 14 year old have a girlfriend.

If it was my son, I'd only let them go to a 9 o'clock movie if they had a responsible driver there and back.

I would, but I would want to keep an eye on him if I was you. Maybe suggest a double date or group dating. Try to limit or totally cut off alone time with each other, or it can easily turn into a make out session spiraling out of control.
