According to Romney it would seem so. Of course I disagree with Romney on many things,I'll just add this one to the list. But he did say that Freedom requires religious faith,he can't deny it or take it back now. Just further proof that he's an idiot.
But I don't think you have to have faith to be Patriotic, all the way back to our forfathers we have examples of those who had little or no religious faith, who were nevertheless great Americans. The whole "have to have faith to be a Patriot" mentality started with the Religious Rights takeover of the Republican Party, which is why so many have become Libertarians. A movement that while small now is growing, and will someday come back to bite the Republicans.

Absolutely not.
You wanna be a Patriot, pay your taxes.
Its that easy.
I hate it when the Religious Organization (Yes, I am a Christian) or the Political Parties divide us as a nation on this issue. The US is not greater than God. We were created as a Nation not to be a Theocracy, but to allow individuals the freedom to choose God...which is what free-will is all about and how God ordained our relationship to be with Him.
And yet we are still divided by our leaders. I will not be confined or controlled through the manipulation of my emotions at the beck and call of my leaders. I am a Patriot, not because I was a Marine. Not because I believe in God. I am a Patriot because I pay my taxes faithfully and loyally, with reservation. That is the mark of the Patriot, as it shows that you worked hard for you money, and give willingly a portion of your pains to this great nation in the hopes of making it strong.

No, to be a true patriotic American, you have to demonstrate how much you love and honor your country and country men. Support your soldiers, and their families, and your faith in our Government. Show respect for the American flag and what it represents, our Freedom, liberty and justice for all.

Maybe.... because the longer Bush is on TV, the less American I feel and the less "faith" I have in a loving God.
If having a religious faith means being one of those mindless "cons" that you see draped in flags and yellow ribbons and shouting expletives at gay people.... then I would rather not join that club.
Call me a traitor if you must, but it is not me who doesn't know how to love my neighbors.

No. I know many atheists who love this country, and their rights to believe what they believe. They don't always agree with the government, which is fine, but they wouldn't change their place of birht for the world.
edit: After reading some answers, I'm reminded of Fred Phelps, a deeply religous, yet bigoted man. Religion is a great thing for most people, but people who follow Fred and Usama's version of religion are not patriotic, just hate filled people who use religion as an excuse. I believe religion is the greatest thing ever, but a few screw up ruin it for everyone.

It does help to enhance your self worth, and be a well rounded person if you are a member of an organized religion. Didn't our founding Fathers believe in God and practice their faith ?
Also, imagine a world with people who were conscientious about pleasing a higher power and living a clean life according to the 10 commandments !
We would need no prisons, courts, and would be able to start leaving our doors unlocked ! It is a wonderful fantasy !

What ever happened to separation of church and state? No...you don't need to be a certain religion to be a true patriot.

Patriotism and religious faith are independent qualities a person may possess. You don't need to have one in order to have the other, but it is not unlikely for a person to possess both.

Now I see there is great deal of controversy here, and my answer is painfully vague. So, with out further undo I bring to you an explanation.
What is in question is not ones love for the country, it is upon the question of patriotism. I become patriot when I read the histories and wittings of our forefathers. In understanding the forefathers, I find religion...
Here I bring not a step toward, nor a step backward from nationalism, I simply call for a gaze at the roots.
There are many roads that lead to patriotism, and this is just one of them...

No. Not even related. To be a patriotic American you have to oppose all taxes and rights infringing laws.
