I think you are referring to the quote "fabric of space" when talking about the "Space-Time Continuum" It's a fancy way of describing the fact that space and time are inextricably woven together in a way that is not intuitive for humans. Our experience of space is uniform (unchanging). A cubic foot of space in Alaska is the same as a cubic foot of space in Australia....that makes sense, but out in space in strange new gravitational fields, a cubic foot of space might be different than those we are familiar with on earth, not so common sense an idea to say the least. This whole description of a 'fabric' of space is a little misleading, but its useful to describe the effect that a gravitational field has on space. Mass (like the mass of the sun) warps space and bends it in on itself. We know this because we can see light from distant stars bend as it passes by the sun. The earth doesn't go in a circle around the sun, it travels in a straight line through space that is curved around the sun. These are difficult concept for humans to embrace given the limited experience we have stuck here on earth.

He meant that space and time are intertwined to form 'space.' This surface is ever changing, making it seem like a fabric. Basically, anything that you can do to a piece of fabric is possible for space.
Looping the fabric- Time loop
Cutting a hole in the fabric- Black Hole
etc.

It's an analogy.
He was talking about the 'bending` of space
caused by gravity, (and sometimes energy).
It's hard to talk about something bending without
using such a word, even though there's nothing
material being bent.
