I have previously asked and answered for questions in "Homework Help", and I'm wondering about a few things..
Is it considered a form of cheating? Because of the unfair advantage over those who don't receive info from YA? Do you feel it's like having another person do your homework for you?
Also, should the askers be aware that not all answers received may be reliable? Or is it at their own risk that they ask for help online instead of researching on their own.
Lastly, some people directly ask for answers, and some simply ask for help. Would you give the answer straightaway, or try to help the asker learn how to answer the question?
What do you think about asking for homework help on Yahoo Answers?

➔ Homework Help
It could be considered cheating if the asker copies answers and makes no effort to learn anything. I always assume people who ask for help on YA don't have anyone at home who can help and it's not any different than asking a parent or sibling for help with homework. Even at home, some parents give answers and some parents try to help explain. A lot of homework help (not just YA) is unreliable. When I give help, I explain each step or concept. If someone has a whole list of questions, I'll explain and answer a couple as examples and leave the rest of the task to the student. I only help when I'm certain I have something of value to offer.

I think it is kinda dishonest. When I do GCSE I wouldn't want to think that I had been working hard and other people just getting the answers of yahoo...
I think reliablilty is at the askers risk. The answerers will do their best but the asker should be aware everyone makes mistakes.
I think if you are answering the question, you should explain how you come to the answer so the asker can get the it right in future.

If the questions are asked and pointers are given in the answers in the right way, then the system of buddy tutoring works well. Those who want others to do it for them usually get nowhere.
You raise an important editorial point; not all answers are guaranteed correct or even relevant!

I think it's OK to ask for help; but probably not so OK to ask for the actual answers. It's important for people to figure out as much as possible by themselves. This is one of the ways we learn. Sometimes we need a little push or a hint. We learn nothing when we just get the answer from someone.

My maths teacher tells us... "If you can't do the job, you should at least have the guts to fail."
I respect that... Cheating, or in this case, an indirect way of cheating by getting help from all over the world, is a cowardly way out of failing. If I don't deserve anything more than a zero in a paper, which has never happened to me (touch wood), then I'm going to get that bravely.
If somebody has a genuine difficulty, is unable to arrive at an answer, I help them out... I simply don't bother in any other case... I have my own teachers to grade my work, thanks..

I think it's free tutoring. The asker could research much of it on the Internet but I can understand the confusion that can occur in math, chemistry, and physics.

I feel there is nothing wrong with asking for "help". I do not think one should give the answer, person is not learning anything that way.To me it would be considered cheating. yes,One should be ware, of course, if answers are given and taken at face value, it is there responsibility to assure the answer is correct. My opinion.
