if you need to reset your laptop back to factory settings, how do you do it please? the reason why i ask is because on my laptop on windows xp i had the vaio recovery tool so i could reset it back to factory settings and just put my programs in. now i have upgraded to windows vista with a custom install and have put all the divers and utilities etc from the discs sony sent me but their was no vaio recovery tool on the discs. they don't have that tool they said for vista. so if anything goes wrong i cannot reset it to start at the beginning with all the drivers in, i have to keep puttung the xp boot disc in and do all the updates and then install vista and do all them updates everytime. aaaaghhh!!!! what a nightmare. any ideas? thanks in advance

I can only agree with the above poster. I have a vaio as well and I hate the Vista it came with. I've already got it back on the setting for the old windows view.

Your best bet is to make a backup now.

So you will have the notebook in its best working state, when it is time to use the backup.

You need to take an 'image' of your hard disk, and there are many programs out there that can do this...

Stick the image on many DVDs, or better on an unused external hard disk.

Then when it fails to start, insert your backup startup disk, plug in your external hard disk, and then everything will be back to normal.

No I haven't got a Sony Vaio but I would like one so if you would like to give me yours I would be really appreciative!
