Look at what she likes. Antiques? Oil paintings? What? Then you can make a drawing, go to a second hand shop and find something that is like what is in her house there and give it along with a heartfelt letter. You can find antiques at yard sales for very cheap. Often times people don't know what the value is. Or at an estate sale. Sometimes they have auctions or the family just sells everything in the house at very cheap prices. Does she like flowers? You can find some very unique flowers. One thing I used to do was go to Walmart and find the deadest plan(as long as it had at least one green leaf) t there especially if it was a unique looking plant. Then I would take that plant to the manager and tell them "Oh this plant is so dead. No one will buy it. Can I have it for a dollar?) 95 percent of the time I would get it for a dollar the rest for at least half off whatever the price was even if it was already half off I would get it half off again. Then I would bring it back to life.
These are just examples of things I would do. Find out first what is closest to the womans heart and get her something that she loves. It doesn't have to be new or expensive but you can always fix it up. Another example, my neighbor loves copper. He went to a store and got a beautiful copper tea pot but the problem was it was covered in gunk. It wasn't beautiful when he bough t it. But he scrubbed it clean. Don't have the money for copper cleaner? Salt and lemon juice. You have that? Cleans it up as if it were never dirty.
Does she like silver? Again go to a second hand shop. Get something silver. Get a roll of good aluminum foil.
Put the stopper in your kitchen sink. Crumple and they sort of lay flat the aluminum foil in the bottom of the stopped up sink. Boil some water put the silver on the aluminum pour in the boiling water.
I can't remember the name but it will cause the silver to be drawn to the aluminum and it will be clean.
There are all kinds of things you can do that will be from your heart. Some of it just takes time and a little effort.

Make her cookies, brownies, etc. and write her a very sweet letter. My dad still claims the best gift I ever gave him was this card when I was younger. He still has it too.

Your time and simple "thanks" is sufficient. Older people do not need more junk anyway, so save your money.
