I would try the post office for starters. another good way to send money overseas is Western Union, there are places around that deal with them, u pay the money in and its received at a western union office the other end on production of id eg passport or whatever they require locally. when i was abroad my dad did this for me and it was excellent, only took few days. just need to check they have an office in the town/country ur sending to.

Go to your bank and ask to make a transfer via swift which costs £8

You'll need identification because of money laundering rules

Prove who you are eg passport photo driving licence
Prove where you live rent book utility bill in your name

And all the details of the bank , branch, account number and RIB number. You will find all this on bank statement from the overseas account

The staff will help you fill in the form

Look if the person you are sending to has internet then you could use one of these services like pay pal, moneybookers etc...
otherwise you have options of going to a bank and wiring the money or through a currency exchange service. I'll do a little more research on the matter and get back to you
