I know it is available in black like for engines or fireplaces but I `need brown for this free standing decorative gas heater it looks like a fire place and it does get hot. It is in my friends house that was built in1902. I was wondering what I should use and where I can order it or buy it. I was going to ask someone at Home Labyrinth I mean Home Depot but it was 9pm and I could not find anyone who worked there (big suprise) Thanks

Get a surface thermometer and find out how hot it gets. You can get them at a woodstove shop for about $15. Most major paint companies make industrial paints for high heat applications. I wouldn't go to Home Depot. Sherwin Williams trains their salespeople much better to recommend the right paint. You might pay more for the paint but it beats doing the job twice.

Try autozone or pepboys. Engine enamel is what you want. Worst case you can search and order it online.

try an auto parts store, there should be more colors than just black, and they have pretty high heat tolerances
