Would suggest "Climb the Highest Mountain," Mark Prophet, for inspiration.
"Men in White Apparel," Ann Ree Colton, also interesting for inspiration.
"Expecting Adam," Martha Beck, is funny, warm, and profound; she reconstructs her last year earning her Ph.D. at Harvard and also delivering her son, Adam.
"The Reincarnation of Edgar Cayce?", Free and Wilcock, http://www.divinecosmos.com
"Extraordinary Knowing," Dr. Elizabeth Mayer; a professor of psychology at U.C. Berkeley, out of desperation, takes a friend's advice to try a dowser 3,000 miles away, to try and locate her daughter's beloved stolen harp. He does, to the very corner. The rest of the book recounts her attempts to disprove the event, and more.
"The Master of Lucid Dreams," psychiatrist Olga Kharitidi, is an amazing account of her learning a method of dream healing.
Fiction: "The Great Divorce," C. S. Lewis, a great novella.
Fiction: "Hidden Camera," Zoran Zivkovic, a light and non-violent mystery.
cordially,
j.

You could always go look at the Pulitzer nominees and winners since they break out non-fiction into a number of categories.
I've read: Freedom From Fear: The American People in Depression and War; Polio: An American Story; and Hirohito and the Making of Modern Japan, which were all very good.

Spoon River Anthology! It's a poem book, so there's no worry in finishing it all after the flight. They're all made up people who have been buried on the same cemetery. These poems are simply their secrets, stories, scandals, etc. I love how the author linked the poems together. You're referred to a character in the poem of another. The table of contents lists the names of the townspeople (of Spoon River) so you can go straight to their story after their mentioned in someone else's. It's lost of fun to read how this author linked everyone from this town together; from family secrets, to love affairs, to war, and so on and so forth :)

If you haven't read Night by Elie Wiesel, I highly recommend that. It's a bit short, but why not read it?
