Fire Nolan.
Bring in an offensive minded head coach.
Draft a QB in the 3rd round or higher and make him compete for Alex Smith's job.
Draft receivers....a lot of them, and keep the ones the pan out.
Build the defense around Patrick "The Badass" Willis.

Draft a QB and send Alex Smith home. They may go after Derek Anderson on the restricted free agent market. They also need to boost their d-line. The simply don't get pressure on the QB which leaves their secondary exposed. Also, they have got to get a down field threat to take some of the defense off the line. Right now, Gore is being stacked up by at least 8 men in the box.
Also, they might want to get rid of Nolan. He wasn't much of a defensive coordinator and he isn't much of a head coach. He seems to have lost control of the team. He hasn't upgraded any parts of the 49ers team, including the defense.

How about the obvious, Bring back Eddie DeBartolo, and Carmen Police in the front office. Then send the mormon boy who can't throw or read defenses back to Utah. Retire all of the elderly defensive lineman that are still on the team. Hit the free agency market and sign a damn QB. Then Draft a offensive line because there will be plenty of them this draft.

well im not ready to give up on smith, i dont think he is a bust at all. he is still the youngest starting QB in the league and has never had consistency. he had 3 different OCs in his first 3 years.
i think the problem is nolan, he isnt a good head coach. he just doesnt to seem have that IT factor. he is way too conservative. i think you get a good offensive head coach, a new offensive coordinator, and get a competent GM. the 9ers have talent, they just need someone better to use them.
as for the draft since they cant get mcfadden anymore, they should just concentrate on OLine and WR and DE.

It's going to take many, many years for them to rebuild. A new coach and QB will only stall things. They have Frank Gore and that's about it. Sad though because they should've been a playoff team this year. Things sure did fall apart quickly.
