it's like having the news or flickr on your website. I have my flickr pix on my Yahoo 360 because I typed in the RSS code. I also have the news and something else. Almost everything has the RSS feed link available. It's cool.

RSS is a standard format for syndicating content on the Internet. The content can be anything! Often information contained in an RSS feed is syndicated on other sites which expands its reach.
Website visitors love RSS because they choose which feeds they wish to subscribe to, if at any point they are unhapy with the content contained in the RSS feed they simply unsubscribe and no longer receive notification of feed updates.
RSS is really a win, win for both subscribers and publishers.
In order to get a better understanding of how RSS works download an RSS reader or use a web aggregator and subscribe to an RSS feed (they are usually indicated by a small orange icon).

An RSS feed, or "Really Simple Syndication", is basically a way to receive news headlines, blog updates, or podcasts. You can think of it sort of as a "mini" email system that lists updates to the RSS feeds you've subscribed to. You can subscribe to RSS feeds in an RSS feeder. If you have Google desktop installed, there's an RSS feeder available for the Google Sidebar, which is the one I use.

You subscribe to a rss feed when you go to a website and you want some updates to appear automatically in your feed reader. It is most useful if you like to read blogs for example: it is a pain to check them all one by one for updates. However with the rss feed, you are notified in one single place for each blog you subscribed to. Feed readers are available for free to download and there are some pretty decent web based ones.

rss= real simple syndication.
Its basically something that tells you when new content has been added to a site. So if you subscribe to say the yahoo rss for sports news you will receive a notification when new content has been added to the yahoo sports news site.

It allows you to have information, such as news headlines, to be constanly and instantly downloading to your computer. Different sites offer different information.
