Well, that depends on how you look at it. Most Middle Eastern countries have oil which brings significant revenues--but these revenues aren't always used in such a way as to raise per capita (per person) standard of living.
Third World means 'poor' and under-developed, essentially. Iraq, for instance, was not poor, but most of its citizens were.
According to the Bandung Conference (1955) The petroleum-rich countries (Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, United Arab Emirates, etc.) and the new industrial countries (India, Malaysia, Brazil, etc.) have little in common with poor countries (Haiti, Chad, Afghanistan, etc.). And according to the Human Development Index, most countries in the Middle East fall in the mid-range of
"human development" which refers to how industrialized and culturally developed they are. Hope this helps!

European countries are called the old world. The Americas are called the new world and pretty much any emerging nations that still have a long way to go are called third world.
I don't think the entire Middle East is considered The third world. Those countries are all pretty old. There is also the term "third world standards" which refers to a kind of backward social order or substandard living condition. For instance, a war often reduces a country to third a third world standard of living such as food, power, hygiene and medical shortages.
Third world standards could also apply to subjugation of women or other forms of intolerance. Many Middle-Eastern countries have modern living standards but primitive customs concerning women's rights or other social issues.
Merry Christmas!

Third World is supposed to refer to countries that don't align themselves with communist or non communist blocs.
Now it means countries that are pre-industrialized or under developed.
The term "first world" refers to countries that are democracies, which are technologically advanced, and whose citizens have a high standard of living.
And second world are communist countries, like Cuba.
