Steroids? Give me a break this will never be corrected. Instead of doing what they did they should have been coming up with a plan for beefing up the drug testing. But anyway how about focusing on THE GAME and WHY you play it. How about going back to the good old days when all you could think about was playing and not money and politics. You make more money then most people will in a life time and thats the bench players. Whats your take on sports today and how can it be fixed?

Because millions and millions of dollars are involved. Players get paid outrageous sums of money to "play" baseball. To stay competitive in the market place, they take steroids. How to fix it? Quit paying the players tons of money. Not likely though.

MONEY!!!!!! It is no longer about the love for the game, but the Millions of Dollars that they can get. You are right! In the good ole days, money was not the object. Players loved to come to the field and play in a friendly game of baseball. There weren't any bench clearing brawls. They didn't have picthers throwing at the heads on purpose. They didn't use cork bats. This sport is teaching our children on how to cheat! The 1919 Black Sox made no more the probably a couple hundred a month. In the 60's the love of the game still there, the players made 150,000.00 a year, or less. They didn't care about money, they didn't do these stupid drugs to make themselves better. That is why I am such a big fan of Michael Jordan. He loved the game of Basketball. THEY LOVED THE GAME!!!!!!!! I am glad to see another person who believes in the same values.

It seems to me that it disppared, and the players only play for more and more money, and some players use thier money for steriods, and others don't. But it seems that nobody doesn't do it for love of the game anymore, if it used to be for this reason. When this started happening, I have no clue. But it might be a good idea to go back to the old ways, but sadly it might not happen. Players today are just greedy for money, and how to fix this problem, I have no idea. But somebody might have to do something about this.

Obviously its' such huge business today for way too many reasons to list here, but say merchandizing for one. (Wonder why some teams have SO many different uniforms?)
We're going to have to tear down this society as we know it and regroup. Finding someone with the nads to lead the charge saying, from here forward, MLB enters its' new era. An entire redraft is enacted which may yeild the games best player 65K per year? Why? So we can continue to restructure our culture and pay who does most for our society. Who is that? Teachers? Army Rangers? Policemen, Firemen? You could juggle the order (I couldn't resist being a retired Ranger, who I mean is the military in general), but these our the people teaching, coaching, mentoring, and protecting our present and future, so lets' get the best! I coached baseball and basketball for 12 years, I'd play either professionally for 60K annually, with benefits. Take some getting used to, but eventually you would get the top athletes, for the love of the game. Cap it? Absolutley, the military was capped for 22 years on my watch, live with it. RLTW!

As many in here have said the Love of the Game was sold to who has the most money. The people we need to be yelling at right along with the players is the owners. They started this throwing 100 mil contracts around like it was play money so players seen the money and did what they wanted to get that money.

Unfortunately, sports have become very financially influenced...the love of the game has been morphed by big flashy $$$. As far as the steroids go, honesty is few and far between. If the punishment were more than a slap on the hand, there may be more dignity in the sports fields.

Life is far to complicated for baseball to be simple again, it will be forever shadowed with the idea that players cheat. Sometimes just to make a living but sometimes to become a superstar. Is it right? Of course not, but there is nothing that can be done, the integrity of the game is forever lost. I'm sry to say this but major league baseball can no longer be thought of as a clean sport and America's number one sport is no longer baseball. And for of all the players that did not cheat and and fought through life the right way, im sry your life is forever ruined by the wrong actions of others. Shame on baseball, it can never be fixed.

What happened to love of the game?

It got sold to the highest bidder
who simply turned around and put it on a street corner
for hire !! The whole thing has turned into a "hooker's scam" !! There isn't a single one left who would pick up a ball and throw it for less than a grand a throw !! It's garbage !!

It's all about money, not integrity. Not love for the game. It's all business. It's "how rich can I get, and how quickly." The only place you will find love for the game is in the stands. On the field, it's strictly business. Sad.

some people want to win so bad, that they just want to win even though it means breaking a few rules. it's just life. people do cheat. what we can do is not learn from them. but yes i do agree the drug testing standards should go up.
