I can almost never tell what they are for. They are rarely entertaining.... I think most of them when I am watching them (god bless my DVR) are just ineffective

Yes... all the political correctness BS and "oh thats offensive to xxxxxxx in another language in a whole different context for completely unrelated terms, so change it or we'll sue" reasons.
Commercials are awful now, they're stuck thinking up the ways they can do the same thing over and over.
