Psychede so far has the only answer that actually starts to explain the WHY of your question.
Think of what a -3 means.
For example you are overdrawn by 3 dollars on your checking account.
In order to subtract (or take away) a negative amount, you must ADD that same amount.
Thus with your checking account:
In order to subtract (or take away that debt of 3 dollars) you must ADD 3 dollars.
Thus 3 - (-3) = 3 + 3 = 6
Hope this helps

Remember the old school example -- if Johnny has three apples and Mary takes three away, how many does he have left?
In this case, Mary takes away the absence of three apples.
So Johnny has three apples -- and Mary removes the lack of three additional apples.

Simple,
when you multiply + with - you get -
when you multiply + with + you get +
when you multiply - with - you get -
the above expression is the same as:
+3 + (-1*-3) = 6
why? because -(-3) means multiplication of -*-3 = -1*-3, and by default you join two monomials by +.
In otherwords anything multiplied with -1 changes the sign

hi.. its because when you are about to subtract two different signed integer.. you must change the sign of the subtrahend to positive(+).. then proceed to addition..
on this case:
3 (minuend) - (-3)subtrahend
is the same as
3 + (+3)=6
thank you!!!
