i had to seperate my electric yellow from all my other fish because he was killing them. i put him in a bowl, no filter or heater.. but trying to keep the water at his rite temp.. he has a place to hide (loves hiding) so i just want to know if he will die in there in the next couple days until i get him a new tank?.. if not, how long can he stay in there? thanks.

A couple days may work. But not much more then that. The thing is, you have no filtration going, so the waste he is producing has no chance to oxidize into lesser harmful compounds. Then you have a temperature issue too. The yellow is a tropical and you need to keep the temp fairly steady between 76-82. Bowls for the most part are unacceptable to house, but temporary may work. You're going to basically need to be changing out part of the water at least once a day or more. Just hurry. The longer in that bowl with no filtration and no heater, the greater your odds are he's not going to make it.

Consider this as well, that is not brought out in other posts. You go and get him a new tank, you're still not out of danger. That tank will be new and go through the nitrogen cycle process. To keep him from that danger, you'll need to rub some of the material from the sponge in the filter of the other tank to jump start the bacteria to colonize. Otherwise, he's going to be exposed to ammonia and nitrites over the next 6-8 weeks. Since you have a mature tank, you need to use some of that media, in the sponge.

No hes needs at least an air pump or air rater so the water has replenished oxygen supplys BUT if you do not have one you need to replace basically all his water with that of the tank he was originally in. Depending on how small a container you have, that will determine how often. Id say once daily should be fine but if your worried go three. remember only water from the original tank. (put him in a bag with some of the water so you can fully empty the container and fill it up again) Best of luck with your yellow, they are beautiful fish. I own one and shes very placid for a yellow but i do have her with four other cichlids so i guess she happy with them. Oh and Merry christmas to!! = )

Unless you have at least an airpump or something, i doubt it that it will survive

hope that helps
Good luck
