Sure you can notice it, i did and at first i thought i was crazy and i didnt think much of it. Well when i had to have an ultrasound at 34 weeks because of low fetal movement and when we were trying to get the baby to move she wouldnt (she was lazy the last 2 months) The ultrasound tech said c'mon little girl move and stop breathing.. i replied breathing? their is no air and she said that they DO practice breaths in their and on the ultrasound i could actually SEE her belly move it was really neat!

Hey, I'll be 31 weeks tomorrow, due January 6th, 2010. I'm 5foot 2inches tall. My legs are longer than my torso, so I have a short torso. I jsut recently felt my daughter in my ribs a few nights ago, actually for the first time ever. The other night (about 2 nights ago) I felt her in my ribs before I got up to go pee. Maybe your daughter is in your ribs, only at night when you're sleeping? Then again, Maybe not, it jsut all depends. I also don't know how you're carrying, but I'm carrying my daughter pretty low, so tha tmgiht contribute to some of it. :) Good Luck & Congrats!

You are the one person who knows your own body the best. Believe in what you already know, and do not doubt your feelings. Being a mother and having a baby within is the most blessed and wonderful gifts we could have. You and your baby are closer than anyone will ever be with you. I believe you know if your baby is breathing, and if you are able to actually feel it. The best doctors will tell you that you are the one who knows your body best. Enjoy the peace inside your heart knowing that it is what you say it is.

Your baby's chest wouldn't be that high so it's probably just the baby moving her/his feet trying to get comfy. Babies don't actually breath in the womb, they just practice their breathing which is why they get hiccups.

Its fine. Babies practice breathing before they are born, I saw it all the time during my many ultrasounds. Also, if your entire belly tightens up it might be braxton-hicks which are practice contractions that can go on for weeks. They are fine and harmless. No advice other than chill, you are fine. I am not a medical professional by the way, so please call your doctor's office with any questions, don't rely on my answers to mitigate your concerns. Just sharing my opinion.

Never happened to me...but sounds neat. I read somewhere that babies practice breathing in the womb. That would be my guess

This happened to me. I thought it looked like my baby breathing too. They do "practise" breathing before they enter the world, only they breath in amniotic fluid.

They do breathe, they breathe the fluid to exercise their lungs. One of preemies biggest problem is underdeveloped lungs -- so baby is really ready! I guess he must be very strong?
