jobs are tough these days, and they want to make sure they hires the best person for the job. Yes they do check your references and check your schooling just to make sure you're being honest with them and say who you say you are

We check any claim of a college degree but generally don't check high school diplomas or GED's. We verify your references with previous employers. We do this to make sure you're honest and to insure that you are capable of performing the job that we're hiring you for.

We do a criminal background check to see if you were ever convicted of a crime and sometimes we'll check your credit rating. Then you must pass the drug test. These we do for primarily for insurance purposes but also to make sure that we won't have any security problems later.

Depends on the job/company. If they are doing a formal background check they will check that. Now days alot of companies do background checks.

Depends on the company, but many companies do a real background check, and it's becoming more and more common.

Your best bet is not to lie about things in the first place, then you won't have to worry.

Both - with the internet it is way way easy to find out ANYTHING and a lot is free. I can asure you, they will find the truth - even after they hire you and if you get caught lying, you'll be fired for lying.

Depends on the job you are applying for. If it is an hourly job, No. If it's a government job, yes. Besides that it depends on the employer

If you're not lying, does it matter if they check?
