I am going to school at the University of Milwaukee Wisconsin, and I am living in an apartment near campus. I am planning on moving out at the end of December though. The catch is that I haven't found a replacement roomate yet. The OTHER catch is that I am not on the lease at all, because in Milwaukee you can only have 3 unrelated peopleliving together and I am the 4th. I let them know on November 27th that I was moving out, and they have done nothing to find another roommate. However when I moved in they did all the work of finding me as a roommate. I don't know these girls barely, and they are being really bitchy telling me I will owe rent until I find a roommate. I'm not trying to be a dick, but if I don't find one am I liable for the rent? If you need any more details to give a good answer, let me know. Thanks

What could you're taking them to court docket for? You owe them funds, they're the single in place to sue. A hire is just one among those condo settlement, it relatively is with the help of no means the sole one that obligates a tenant to pay lease. loss of a hire makes you a month to month tenant, yet a tenant all the same.

Sorry, but by law you will owe rent. Once you've lived in a place for 30 days you become a tenant, and will have to pay rent. My grandfather just went through a situation with a person that lived with her. The court told him he had to give her an eviction notice because she lived there for more than 30 days.

This isn't a liability question. This is a statement of morality. Apparently you are lacking in that department. You go to school. You need a place to stay. You shack up with 3 girls and contribute 1/4th of the rent. Due to a technicality of only having 3 signatures on the lease. You had the benefit of a place to stay, you haven't found a replacement room mate and you feel there is no obligation on your part? You are a dick. PAY FOR YOUR SHARE OF THE RENT!!

You are living there illegally, you are the 4th person but state law only allows 3. You have given them 30 days notice, which should have been in writting. If it was not in writting that could become a problem but again they really have no recourse since you never should have been there, anyhow. Move and DO NOT find a replacement roomie. You could be causing yourself more problems if you bring in another illegal tenant.

1. You are in the apartment illegally. You are not on a lease. You may be in a "sublet" situation. Read them the "Riot act of 1966".
2. You gave them 1 month notice, continue to move out.

If you don't have a contract you are what is called a month to month tenant and you only have to give 30 days notice. It is not your job to find a replacement, that's why you give the notice, so that the person renting the apartment has enought time to find someone else.

As long as you live there you owe rent! if your not there any more than no your not on the lease and as long as you have no documentation that says that you are to find a roommate before you leave then you don't owe anything but if you signed any papers you need to look them over before anything. but to me you do owe them a notice and you gave that to them and as long as you didn't do it right before hand and have given them plenty of time than screw it. The had to place before you and handled it so they can do it now.
Like you said their bitchy women who just want to screw with you! good luck with your education!

You don't need to pay rent until they find a new roommate.
Anybody who is telling you otherwise is wrong.
Plus, if you do pay rent and the landlord accepts, you are the tenant, and if you are both breaking the law, according to what you wrote, then you are in deep do do.
