Try drilling down to Device Manager and see if it will tell you why the second CPU is disabled.

For WinXP, you can get there from Start >> Settings >> Control Panel >> Administrative Tools >> Computer Management - and Device Manager is in the window about midway.

Open up device manager and you will see "Processors" - it is an alphabetic list so that should be easy to spot. From there you can see if one of the processors is intentionally disabled.

If not, try to enable it - if the option to do so is displayed and not greyed out. If you cannot enable it or restart it, then a call to your dealership is in order.

Did you upgrade from a single core to dual core without reinstalling XP? XP uses different kernels for single CPU or multi CPU systems. Go to Device Manager and see what it says under Computer. To get multi-core/CPU working, it should say "ACPI Multiprocessor PC." If not, you could try the instructions here:

...but really it'd probably be easier to just reinstall XP.

If that isn't the problem, it could be a BIOS setting, or you might need a BIOS update for your motherboard.

Sounds like the board has the bios ready for dual core.

Go to intel and get the drivers for your processor and install them.

go to your device manager and expand the computer icon.....ACPI Multiprocessor PC setting in Device Manager. Check to see if you have that. That is the correct driver. You may have to change it to that.
