What do you think of this?
Sometimes I sleep with the tv on because I'll be laying there in the dark and sometimes I feel some sort of anxiety, especially if I start to think what if something happens in my sleep and I die...so I turn on the tv and turn it on low, it's comforting. Why would it be comforting to me?

yeah to not feel so alone would make sense, like maybe since i don't feel alone I wouldn't feel vulnerable or something? hmmm *ponders*

I do this too - having a low noise in the background seems to be more soothing than the deafening stillness.

I do not think sleeping with the tv is a good idea. In my opinion for what it's worth the tv has bad messages, annoying ads and unhealthy waves that get into the mind and can cause bad dreams, depression and headaches.
Maybe you could get a soothing sound machine? I have one and it's wonderful. There are peaceful sounds of running streams, rainstorms, tropical birds etc and it take my mind to a lovely place far away before drifting off.

I do the same thing when I have to sleep alone. I am not a fan of the dark. I turn the tv on low and set the timer for it to be turned off within an hour.
It's the fact that you have a source of light and you feel you are not alone.

Works for me, ive lain awake til four in the morning before, with a fear of 'not waking up'. Noise, from a TV or radio, tends to occupy my mind, with something other than the irrational random thoughts that can manifest during dark quiet times. Sometimes its hard to let those thoughts go.

it is a girl thing...I first ran into it about 8 years ago when I started shacking regularly...It drove me insane to have to sleep with a tv on at the foot of the bed. Can't really say how common it is, but I've had a few girlfriends and now my wife who always sleeps with tv on...it isn't so bad. I get to hear the news in my sleep cause we have it on msnbc or cnn...it is weird because later in the afternoon some one will say "did you hear about the thing with the guy who did the thing and stuff?" and I'm like yeah i thought I dreamed that

I often go to sleep with the radio on a timer so it turns itself off. I'm usually asleep before it ends. For me, I think it keeps me from thinking about things that would keep me awake, like worrying about money or something.

Because it's "white noise" & pacifies your anxiety... -It's ALSO addicting...-like an oversized (& very expensive) Nightlight. If you get used to sleeping with it ON all the time- you're going to have problems sleeping anywhere ELSE- without a TV being on! :(

Not to worry, my friend.. I do that.. I watch t.v. and fall asleep with it on. If I fall asleep and someone turns it off, I snap awake and won't be able to go back to sleep. So I leave it on until I wake up again.

I am the same way...specially when my husband isnt home. I need to hear something in the background so I dont feel so alone...maybe thats why it comforts you, it makes you feel less lonely.

Exactly what happens to me, except I don't leave it on, I just watch it before I go to sleep then I turn it off.
Weird, didn't think anyone else had that same problem :s.
