I think you'll find this works the other way round too - I guess Americans would find that non-English speakers who learned their English from a British teacher would sound British. What most people who learn English end up with is a mixture of their own accent and the accent of their teacher. Being British, you don't detect the British component but, for you, an American component sticks out like a sore thumb!

Music and songs.
Activating the prefrontal cortex of the brain with music and learning has a double punch of effectiveness. Very quiet, almost inaudible classical music such as Mozart (studies show this composer to be the most effective), played during lessons have yielded staggering results in research.
Of course, repetition is also a primary element.

They should read children's books and magazine in English. They can watch English and American TV and movies. It would help if they had someone who speaks English to talk to.

communicate (its ok to make mistakes because you learn from them)
make them feel a bit more confident in their ability (give them a praise when they make an effort to speak english)
watch movies in english
don't let the non english speakers sit together because then they will start speaking their language (if they speak the same language)

Tell them to watch Sesame Street. I taught ESL classes when I worked at a summer school camp like 6 years ago, and it helped my students immensely.

Try this blog, it's got short English clips with their transcript, some speeches made by politicians. Some Chinese translation as this is mainly for people who use Chinese. Don't know if they are Chinese.
