christmas is only seen as a holiday of great importance to some people. For alot of people chistmas is just a time to celebrate being with friend and family. There are many people christian and others who don't celebrate christmas as the birth of christ. So for them to recognize this day as the birth of christ that would go against the beliefs of everyone else that don't see it as that.Ramadan is not celebrated as the birth of anyone. It is a month dedicated to purifying the soul, focusing on god and self sacrifice.Thers a difference between saying that a day should be celebrated as the birth of jesus, and having a month of self sacrice if you follow.Ramadan only applies to the muslims and is not shown and forced on others, whilde celebrating christmas as the birth of jesus will be public and nationwide,so people that don't celebrate for that reason will be constantly exposed to it.

Our representative, Jim McDermott, who voted against the Christmas resolution, is quoted in the local paper as saying that the Christmas resolution merely stated the obvious. I've emailed him asking for a better explanation. It makes absolutely no sense to vote for one and not the other.

Btw, your question is misleading and inaccurate -- the House passed the resolution. It was 9 democrats who voted against it, not ~all~ democrats, sheesh.

Strange question for me, in this day and age.
I have a beautiful Menorah and the lights shine on my Nativity hand crafted in Jerusalem.
Ramadan? Kwanzaa? Hanuka?
I recognize them all. In my heat, I think that most people feel the same.
Is there a reason that you feel differently?
I promise to recognize your celebration, with a glad heart.

It's probably just because a majority of them are Christian. If I were in Congress I would probably have to vote 'nay' on any such resolution relating to my own religion.

But I think it's a bad idea in general for such resolutions to even come up for a vote, regardless of the religion.

Do you like having Christmas vacation?

They had to make it a Secular holiday or you could not have the day off!!!

You don't get any Saint's day off now do you?

There is no "war" on Christmas, they just to define it in legal terms so that way it can be protected!!!

This is a typical Republican question, misinformed and mispelled.

What the f... is a "democrate" and what's up with "regonize?"
You don't do any better with spelling and grammer than does your fearless leader.

If this seems abusive, it's nothing compared to what I feel.

But you don't go around say, Ho Ho Ramadan, do you?
I'm not afraid but who wants to celebrate Christmas anyway, a season of stress, over commercialisation and irritating Christmas songs, cards and decorations.

What else do you think Conservative writers for a Conservative paper will write? They bash Democrats for every little issue. The same goes for Liberal writers in Liberal newspapers and publications. They bash Conservatives. So the world goes round and round.

Just because it is your faith does not make it universal.
just because it is your faith doesn't mean that public stations are obligated to present Christian programming in their program schedule.
Christmas to Christians is good for them.
Not to everyone else.
This is public tv no Christian tv. Thats why most PBS stations don't endorse Christian stuff like this.

Why are Christians the most irritating people at times with their Universe size sense of entitlement.
