I think Primal Fear stands out among his other roles. Give it a look see and see if it gives you another perspective of the man.

Since he appeared on the scene, I've been wondering how he keeps getting roles. He's so blah that I find it difficult to remember what he looks like. I give each movie a chance, and each time he disappoints me.

"The Illusionist" should have had a much stronger person in the role! He and Jessica Biel were simply wrong for those roles! Rufus Sewell is the sole reason I enjoyed the film at all.

Yes, he's extremely overrated, as are a number of others:
Matt Damon
Edward Burns
Tom Hanks
Donnie Wahlberg
Mark Wahlberg
Will Ferrell
Adam Sandler
Joaquin Phoenix
Russell Crowe
Sean Penn
Paul Giamatti
To me, they are all overrated actors, taking up roles I'd rather see other people play. It's difficult to watch movies starring these non-starworthy people. For example, I managed seven minutes of the ultra-racist "Click" opening before bailing out. I might try again, but an awful leading man~or leading lady~makes it difficult to enjoy a movie.

Break out role - Primal Fear - don't lie, he had us all fooled. Excellent psycho bad guy.
Keeping the Faith - funny, romantic, cool guy. Well acted.
The Score - fools everyone as a man with a disability, turns the screws...again well acted.
OK, The Italian Job, again, faker, turns the screws. He was a nasty guy here, his nastiest yet and he did it well!
Fight Club is not a role like any other.
Red Dragon - good guy, he plays smart characters very well.
I'm just not sure where you're coming from. What roles are you thinking of?
