you don't allow it and you run especially if the control freak is a guy trying to control a girl as this is a major precursor to abuse, one of the first things these guys do is isolate and make u think that you can do nothing right, i know i am jumping off in another direction but this is a specific type of abuser and these are early warning signs, and deserves treatment with a consulor

Me of all people answering this question now.....have mercy. I think everyone has to have some space, but if you and your partner are truly in tune....you would be sharing and caring and there wouldn't be that problem. I think it often arises out of insecurity or fear.....but then again who am I to say now......had to take a stab at it though....

Sage had it right on! It's an insecurity... I couldn't handle it myself, so I sought to leave the situation. I agree that you CAN pretend that they are in control to keep the waters calm. Not me though... I like a strong independent, self aware man who believes in himself...

I don't think anyone likes being controlled period. Why is it necessary anyways. Everyone has their own views and opinions and they should be able to use them on their own terms not someone Else's.

Just let them THINK they are in control but take care of your needs. Then you are happy and they are none the wiser!

I divorced him.
