I was on the Internet, researching for my 1st Amendment paper. You know how they say that when you've got writers' block, you have to divert your attention, until something comes back to you? Well, my folks don't believe that and say it's bull. Anyways, as I was saying, I was browsing some questions on Y/A and asking some. My mom came in, pissed off, 'cause she thinks I'm chatting! She thought Y/A was about chatting. You know, the whole format thing? Avatar to the left, then the answer on the right? She thought it was chat! How do I explain that to her! My folks are so closed-minded! And they don't believe the "divert-your-attention-when-you-can't-think" stuff!

Do not bother your parents with the 'divert your attention' issue. When they are in a mood to listen, explain with great pride and humility the wonderful concept of yahoo answers. Tell them of the immense hearty joy you experience while helping other needy persons, though they are totally unknown to you. Tell them of the ecstasy you feel when one of your answers has been appreciated as best answer.Encourage them to suggest some serious question to you to be posted.Once the concept is explained to them in a polite way, you will get appreciation from them too.

This is a case where honesty will truly pay off for you. Show your mother what you are using Y!A for and I'm sure she will cool off real quick. She may even apologize to you for being so closed-minded.
