Hard Drive only.

Everything is stored on the Hard drives. The only thing stored on the motherboard is the BIOS. However, Vista does allow booting from flash drives.

When any data is written or read from your compter, it is always read/written to the hard drive. There are a few exceptions though. The CD-ROM drive and the Flash Chip are exceptions. But, for the most part, everything is from the hard disk(s). I hope that answered your question.

hard drive, thats why if you have two os, then you have to divide up your hard drive
