Huge difference between parties. They think there are vastly different ways to solve problems.
For example, Hillary wants to give all the illegals citizenship. Most Conservatives don't think this is right. Since these viewpoints are total opposites, there is no way to compromise! BTW, Hillary is WRONG!

Look closely at the debates.
In the Democratic debates, the questions are designed to determine which candidate would be most likely to deliver on the basic liberal platform of the party as if there is no question that the platform does not need to be challenged.
On the other hand, in the Republican debates, the basic conservative party platform is attacked and the candidates vilified by embarrassing them for supporting it.
That is the source of voter and party division.

It is not just the voters. Take members of Congress. If you sat down members of the opposite party, you would find they are very similar. They want what is best for their country and their families. Now, you put a vote for a bill in front of them and 90+% of the time, the vote is split exactly on party lines. Why is that???? Why is party loyalty so strong to these people and the general public?

just read these answers, people are so blinded by their hate of the other side they exaggerate, they oversimplify, they can justify the most outrages action by the side they like. We are no longer able to see the truth, we only see what our side tells us to see. Can't you people see all politicians lie, they all are corrupt, they are all bought and payed for by the special interest groups. When you defend either side you are are just a puppet in their game of divide and control. They want us to fight each other so we won't see what they are doing to us. Pull your head out of your , and see the light.

Let's see, one party wants us to lose the War in Iraq and give all our money to taxes. The other party panders to big business but at least wants to defend us. You figure it out.

Yes, and her name is "Hillary."
She has singlehandedly done more to damage the relationship between the two parties than anyone else in history.

They do get along. It is the fanatics (trying not to be insulting) that really fight for what they believe should be true about the government that don't get along.
